LIVE STRONG

Traditional Yoshinkan Style Aikido

About Us

Aikido Yoshinkai Ottawa (AYO) provides experienced instruction in Yoshinkan Aikido: A style of Aikido recognized for its unique, structured approach to learning, and its strong emphasis on effective techniques. It is the style of Aikido taught to Japan’s elite police forces; including, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, and the Kidotai.

Aikido Yoshinkai Ottawa was founded in 1993, and is a member school of Aikido Yoshinkai Canada, a network of dojos dedicated to the teaching of authentic Yoshinkan style Aikido. All of our instructors are Japan-certified through the Aikido Yoshinkai Foundation in Tokyo.

Step Into Change

Yoshinkan Aikido uses a collaborative approach to training. The aim of training is not to defeat others in competition: It is to strengthen body, mind, and spirit through practice of an authentic Japanese budo. Deep skill and self-mastery emerge as a result of consistent, mindful practice.

Leave the usual behind. Connect with a deeply-rooted cultural practice that uses self-defense training as a vehicle for personal growth.

Drop by to watch a class. We train on the second floor of the Takahashi Dojo. Train for a week without any obligation on your part.

Yoshinkan Aikido is non-aggressive and does not depend on brute strength. Ages 14+ welcome.

Follow The Way

Regardless of your level of expertise – from beginner to advanced student – Aikido Yoshinkai Ottawa supports your progress by providing a respectful and welcoming training space.
